1. The starlight Night.(G.M. Hopkins)

LOOK at the stars! look, look up at the skies! 보라 별을 보라 하늘을 쳐다보라

O look at all the fire-folk sitting in the air! 보라 공중에 앉아있는 모든 불사람을

The bright boroughs, the circle-citadels there! 저기 빛나는 도시들을 원형성벽들을

Down in dim woods the diamond delves! the elves’-eyes!

저아래 어둠침침한 숲속에 다이아몬든 동굴 요정의 눈들있다.

The grey lawns cold where gold, where quickgold lies!

차가운회색의 잔디 그곳에 금 수은이 놓여있다

Wind-beat whitebeam! airy abeles set on a flare!

바람에 나부끼는 백양나무들 경쾌한 하얀포플라 나무

Flake-doves sent floating forth at a farmyard scare!—

눈송이비둘기들 날아오르는 농장에 허수아비를 보고

Ah well! it is all a purchase, all is a prize.

아 정말 이것은 모두 수입해야 할 물건이고 상품이다.

   

2. The Haunted Palace.(E.A. Poe)

In the greenest of our valleys 우리 계곡중 가장 푸르른 곳엔

By good angels tenanted, 착한 천사들이 살고있어요

Once a fair and stately palace-- 예쁘고 품위 있는 궁전

Radiant palace—raised its head. 빛을 내는 궁전 – 머리를 쳐들었다.

In the monarch Thought's dominion 군주 생각의 지배권 안

It stood there! 거기에 머무르다.

Never seraph spread a pinion 세라핀은 절대 피지 않는다, 날개를

Over fabric half so fair! 예쁜직물이 반은 넘는 !

 

3. Church Going.(Philip Larkin)

Once I am sure there's nothing going on 아무 행사도 없음을 확인하고

I step inside, letting the door thud shut. 나는 안으로 발걸음을 옮겨, 문을 세게 닫는다.

Another church: matting, seats, and stone, 또다른 교회 : 매트, 좌석, 돌,

And little books; sprawlings of flowers, cut

그리고 작은 책들; 지금은 시들어 갈색을 띤, 일요 미사에 사용된

For Sunday, brownish now; some brass and stuff 너저분한 꽃들; 성단 위의 놋쇠물건; 깔끔한 작은 풍금;

Up at the holy end; the small neat organ; 얼마나 오래 양조되었는지 알 수 없는

And a tense, musty, unignorable silence, 긴장되고, 곰팡내나는,

Brewed God knows how long. Hatless, I take off 무시할 수 없는 정적, 모자를 쓰지 않은 나는

My cycle-clips in awkward reverence, 어색한 외경심에서 사이클 장갑을 벗는다.

 

4. Rhyme 란 무엇인가 ?

 ~ 동일한 소리의 되풀이, 동일한 소리의 반복은 운율 못지 않게 음악적 효과와 즐거움을 준다.

e.g.) minimal pair - pin bin kin , cheer hear ,

end- rhyme, internal rhyme, alliteration, assonance, perfect and inperfect rhyme, spelling rhyme(eye rhyme), masculine rhyme, feminine rhyme 등이 있다.

 

5. Metaphor ?  본래 뜻은 숨기고 비유하는 형상만을 드러내어 표현하는 것. 은유,암유,상징.

 e.g.) 그녀는 천사이다. 내 목소리는 꾀꼬리이다.

  if you want to say that someone is very shy and frightened of things, you might say that they are a mouse.
